This book tells a love story between a pig and a sea bird – the seagull. The pig was called João Caramelo and the seagull’s name was Rita Fininha. João Caramelo was sad because of their impossible love. All the animals of the woods thought that love was nonsense. Caramelo had no support of his friends, which made him very sad. However, he did not stop thinking about Fininha."

Pequeno Grande C – 1st year – pictures 4/22/2014

Pequeno Grande C

The Pequeno Grande C, consists of a project produced by Fundação Calouste Gulbenkian that promotes the creation of artists’ books. The Artists’ books started with William Blake in the XVIII century. Blake was the first artist to conceive the book as a work of art. Since then many creators have conceived the book as a means to their work, reinventing their features being in shape or content. This book-object invites us to rethink in what used to be a collection of pages sequencly gathered.

Pequeno Grande C

Production of books by Investigadores (2nd year)
Kiko e Funil (Kiko and the funnel)

Once upon a time there was a boy named Francisco Amaral, but everyone called him Kiko with tenderness. Kiko was a different boy from the others and he was new at school, so it wasn’t easy for him to make friends. The adults said that he was disabled. He could not always control his feelings. He could not talk with other boys and girls and he would not run and skip as his peers at school (2nd year writing).

Will Kiko manage to overcome these obstacles with the help of his new friends? And will the funnel have been useful? Curious? We were also curious to know the story. Being it an audiobook, you can just click on the folder below.

Once upon a time a dad went to visit Paris. As soon as he arrived there he was stung by a tiny mosquito and he said: “I will never come back to Paris again!” On the following day he was stung again but by an even bigger mosquito. On the following day the story repeated, he was stung again, and again by bigger mosquitoes.

What bad luck this dad had! Do the mosquitoes prefer tourists?

Night when magic took place in my backyard

One evening, 10 p.m Sharp an asteroid fell in the backyard of my house: Rua dos Malmequeres, No. 15B, R/C right, Carcavelos, Portugal. PUUUUUMMMMMMMMMMM. I decided to go to the backyard to see what was happening. I went down the stairs, very slowly because I was so scared. I stumbled on a stone and I fell on the grass.

How will this story continue with such a troubled start? What secrets will this magic box hide? We know it already, and what about you? Do you know it?

Asteroids and magic told by the Creatores.

Books by Inventores Class – part 1

Integrated in the contest of Pequeno Grande C Inventores Class produced 5 books under one newspaper head title and one binomial game performed by students.
(To get to know all the 5 books please acess to the link above)

Tourists run away from the mosquitoes – head title of Portuguese newspaper. Other stories were created under the binomial Mutante and Goat. In this work we aimed above all to reward the singularity and the originality expressed in a collective production by the young authors. The book by the author, which we call WORK, is the only competitor in the contest, but tests three different creative activities: the production of the book itself; the production of a narrative and respective illustration. It is a small big project that has as objectives the education and the awareness of the younger public to the creativity, nurturing their fantasy through different artistic practices.

“We created the narrative with our words, the illustration with our drawings and we produced the book from our ideas – making from our work a book!”

Gipsy Community 3/26/2014

Gipsy Community

We invited a group, which belong s to one of many gipsy communities settled in Portugal to visit our school and share curiosities from their tradition, culture and a lot more. Young members from the group Embarca came to show us a song and a dance that had made them win a contest. Among many other things we got to know that they prefer to be called Rom, due to the pejorative sense that the word “gipsy” often has.

All the same and all different was the remaining idea.
